GOLDFARB HISTORY
In the late-1980’s, the Alexander A. Goldfarb Memorial Trust was created at the University of Hartford to honor the late Alexander Goldfarb and his dedication to the arts. This trust would fund the Juried Student Art Exhibition—as it was then called—to be held annually at the Joseloff Gallery.
All current students of the University of Hartford are invited to submit up to two works of art to be considered for the exhibition. Of the works chosen for the show, two undergraduate students will be chosen to receive purchase prizes in the amount of $1,000 each. The winning students’ artwork will become a part of the Goldfarb Memorial Collection, owned by the Hartford Art School and proudly displayed throughout the University public spaces. Part-time, post-bacc, and graduate students may enter work for the exhibition, but only full-time, undergraduate students are eligible to win the two purchase prizes.
JUROR
John O’Donnell creates artistic projects beyond the confines of any media, employing material that is germane to his conceptualization. O’Donnell is a printmaker, a sculptor, a performance and new media artist who addresses everyday engagement with our perceptions of reality, awkward transitions, nostalgia, and politics with its attendant conflicts broadcasted by traditional and social media.
As Assistant Professor of Printmaking at the University of Connecticut, he focuses his teaching on the rigors of a strong technical foundation while encouraging experimentation and exploration of concepts and materials.
Most recently, O’Donnell has had solo exhibitions at the Glass Box Gallery, Seattle, WA; No Pop Gallery, New Haven, CT; The School of the MFA, Boston, MA; EBK Gallery, Hartford, CT; Blue House Gallery, Dayton, OH; and the New Britain Museum of American Art, CT. He received his MFA at the University of Connecticut and currently resides in New Haven, CT.

REQUIREMENTS
Submissions will be accepted online only.
Only currently enrolled students of the University of Hartford are eligible to enter.
Part-time, post-bacc, and graduate students may enter work for the exhibition, but only full-time, undergraduate students are eligible to win the two purchase prizes.
Submissions should be recent and a fair representation of your current work. Freshmen who completed work over the summer, before entering the art school may enter those works. Please do not enter work completed as assignments during courses at other schools or universities.
Artwork made from organic materials that may rot during the exhibition (pieces made of food/vegetables/trash/etc.) may alter the environment in the gallery and needs to be maintained by the artist. The Joseloff Gallery will disqualify any work deemed hazardous to the gallery, the artwork installed around it, to staff and visitors.
All accepted artwork must remain on display in the gallery through the end of the Goldfarb Exhibition on February 22, 2019 and will not be allowed to be removed while the exhibition is on view for any reason.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
Sculpture/3-D Work
You may submit up to three images per entry. If you would like to show multiple views of your sculptural work, please do.
Video
ArtCall recommends the following for video submissions:
"Due to the vast number of codecs and wrappers and formats for digital video (and enormous storage requirements), we recommend that students upload their videos to either Vimeo.com or YouTube.com. Users can then copy the URL for the video and paste it into the description field on their submission."
ArtCall's current video upload capability only allows for .mp4 videos and a maximum file size of 4MB.
2-D Work
You may submit up to three images per entry.
*If your work is matted or framed PLEASE be sure to submit an image of the entire piece, including mat/frame.*
2-D work should be ready to hang in a gallery setting. Mounted, matted, or framed preferred. Think about how to hang your work and make confident decisions about presentation.
If your piece is meant to be matted, you are encouraged do so, but please know that it is better to submit a piece with a well-fitting mat ONLY than it is to place your work in an ill-fitting, store-bought frame for the sake of framing it.
Unmatted works on paper will be pinned to the wall when hung in the exhibition. If you would prefer that your work be hung differently, please devise a hanging system before submitting your work.
Matted pieces and works on paper mounted to board will be hung on the wall with L-nails. If you would prefer that your work be hung differently, please devise a hanging system before submitting your work.
Works on stretched canvas will be hung on the stretcher bars if a hanging device (D-rings or wire) is not supplied. If you would prefer that your work be hung differently, please devise a hanging system before submitting your work.
Work in a series (a diptych or triptych, for example) may be submitted as one entry. Please be sure to enter an image of the full series installed as a group. Please provide instructions on hanging your work or make time to install your own work.
